Two diverse organizations share a passion for education/career competencies development for students. The National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) is a membership organization that promotes education-based activities for over 12 million high school students in the United States who participate in 16 categories of co-curricular activities of which sports is its largest population. Its headquarters shares an Indianapolis, Indiana location similar to Butler University which is ranked #1 in Regional Universities Midwest by the U.S. News and World Report. It also ranks #1 in best undergraduate teaching and most innovative schools in Regional Universities. Butler University is a small, private liberal arts college with big outcomes of providing the highest quality of liberal and professional education while fostering and stimulating intellectual community through interactive dialogue and inquiry among students, faculty, and staff.
NFHS History
The National Federation of State High School Associations is also referred to as NFHS and was established in 1920. Its headquarters is located in Indianapolis, Indiana. There is an association representing high schools in each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia. For example: California Interscholastic Federation, Indiana High School Athletic Association, Virginia High School League, etc
Your State
Student-athlete moms may want to check out their own state organization to learn the number of student-athletes that participate in sports in their area. Some states have more student-athletes than others. You can find this information by contacting the NFHS for a hard copy of their NFHS Handbook that they publish each year.
